Directions to the hob’art gallery at the Monroe Center for the Arts

Arriving by Bus

From New York City: Take the NJ Transit #126 bus from Port Authority (Gate 204) to Hoboken. The fare from NY is $3.20 (pre-purchased ticket required; ticket-dispensing machines are located near the entrance to gate 204). Get off at 8th & Washington Streets and walk 10 blocks west to Monroe St. The entrance to the Monroe Center is midway down the block, on the west side of the street.

Arriving by PATH

From either New York City or Newark, NJ, the PATH train will bring you to NJ Transit’s Hoboken Terminal. Consult the PATH system website for directions [http://www.panynj.gov/path/maps-schedules.html]. The train arrives at the historic Hoboken Terminal at the southeast corner of town. To get from the PATH to the Monroe Center, a taxi is available for a flat rate of $5 (a $1 tip is customary, and the driver may ask your permission to take additional passengers to other destinations). Or, take a NJ Transit bus (#126 or #89 — the local fare is $1.50, exact change required) up Washington St. to 7th St., then walk west 10 blocks to Monroe St. Or, take a stroll; it only takes about 20 – 30 minutes to walk up “The Avenue,” aka Washington Street, lined with shops and restaurants, to 7th St., and then another 10 blocks west to Monroe.

Arriving by Ferry

From New York City, NY Waterway offers service to both Hoboken North and Hoboken South from terminals at 39th Street and the World Financial Center. From the Hoboken North stop, walk two blocks west along 14th Street to Washington, then six blocks south to the 8th St., and 10 blocks west to Monroe St. The Hoboken South stop brings you to NJ Transit’s historic Hoboken Terminal. See PATH directions, above, to get from the terminal to the Museum.

Arriving by Car

From the NJ Turnpike: Take exit 14C or 16E and follow signs to Hoboken.

From 14C, take the far left lane marked “Hoboken only” and make the first left before the approach to the Holland Tunnel. Follow this road to where it curves under the railroad overpass and make the first left onto Jackson St. Turn right at 1st St., go two blocks east to Madison St., turn left and go north to 7th St. Turn left at 7th and go a block and half to the parking lot behind the Monroe Center.

From 16E, take the ramp marked “last exit before the Lincoln Tunnel” and turn right at the bottom of the hill, onto JFK Boulevard East, which becomes Park Ave. When you can’t go any further, at 14th St., turn right onto 14th, then make the next left onto Willow Ave. Take Willow Ave. south to 8th St., make a right and drive 10 blocks to Monroe. If there is no parking available on the street in front of 720 Monroe, there is a parking lot behind the building, accessible from Jackson St.–drive south to 6th, make a right, go one block east to Jackson, make another right, go one block north to 7th and make another right–the entrance is on your left.

A parking lot is located directly behind the Monroe Center, accessible from 7th St. Visitors are required to log their license plate number in a log book in the rear lobby of the building.

On-street parking is extremely limited. Metered parking: Commercial blocks are controlled by multispace meters: Obtain a timed parking slip to display on your dashboard with cash or credit card for up to 2 hours. Meters are in effect 9 am – 9 pm Monday – Saturday. Visitor parking is prohibited on the north or west side of any unmetered streets (as indicated by dark green residents-only signage). Residential streets offer up to 4 hours of parking per day, but only on the south and east sides of the block. Beware of street-sweeping signage.
