Artist Statement

Art, nature and travel have always played a large part in my life.  My art expresses my love of nature and my traveling inspires me to create.  I love working in stone, oils and pencils.

When I was in college a professor encouraged me to study stone carving in Italy.  There I learned the art of working a hammer and chisel as they did for hundreds of years.  Then I learned about pneumatic tools for today’s artist.  I look for stones that are hard to find and high in quality to enhance the design of what I am trying to carve.

When I paint and draw, I compose landscapes and seascapes to express color, mood and light.  Light and shadows can create dramatic scenes and color changes can take it to another level.
